I can’t believe that it is a whole year since we were able to restart our Beaver Colony. Time really does fly when you are having fun! There are two types of badges that Beavers, Cubs and Scouts can earn – Activity Badges and Challenge Awards. As the name suggests, Activity Badges are based around specific activities and can generally be earned over two or three meetings.
Over the past 12 months our Beavers have earned a variety of activity badges but not yet any challenge awards. Challenge Awards involve more varied tasks and take longer to earn and we hope that some Beavers will complete their first challenge awards this term. Once a Beaver has completed all 6 Beaver Challenge Awards and at least 4 Activity Badges we can present them with their Bronze Chief Scout Award – the highest award in Beavers. We are hoping to be able to present our first Bronze Chief Scout Awards (since we restarted the Colony) later this term.
As can be seen from the copy of our original registration form, next summer our Scout Group will reach the grand age of 50! And so we are planning a grand day to celebrate - watch this space for further details.
In the meantime if you are a current or former Beaver, Cub or Scout (adults are included), why not take part in our competition to design a badge to celebrate this milestone? Just email me at
Finally, a shout out to anyone who is aged 14+ and is looking for a volunteering opportunity (maybe for their Duke of Edinburgh Award…), we would love your help! Our young volunteers are an invaluable part of the Scout Group - with their help the youngsters ,and the Beavers in particular, can do a much wider range of activities.
